Project Objectives
SAP set out to build a future-ready EV charging ecosystem across its Bangalore campus. The initiative was designed to go beyond convenience, embedding electric mobility into the company’s broader sustainability and IT governance strategy. To achieve this, SAP prioritized enterprise-grade data privacy by hosting all charger data on internal servers, ensuring complete control and compliance. The deployment also needed to deliver high-volume charging capacity for both two- and four-wheelers while maintaining a simple, intuitive user interface that would encourage widespread employee adoption. Ultimately, the project aimed to align infrastructure upgrades with SAP’s green campus vision, creating a secure and scalable model for sustainable workplace mobility.
Challenges and Planning
The path to realizing this vision presented several challenges. At the outset, SAP faced a clear infrastructure gap: scalable workplace EV charging simply did not exist within its campus. Addressing this required not only physical deployment but also integration with SAP’s stringent IT and compliance systems. Data sovereignty was a critical concern, as the company needed complete control over charger data, hosted internally rather than on third-party platforms. Equally important was ensuring that the system was intuitive enough to drive real behavioral change among employees, making adoption seamless rather than burdensome. Balancing these requirements, physical infrastructure, digital integration, and user experience, were central to the planning process and shaped the solution that followed.
