Executive Summary

Novo Nordisk, a global healthcare leader, has long been committed to sustainability and innovation. In Bengaluru, the company took a decisive step toward its carbon neutrality roadmap by partnering with Bolt.Earth to create a workplace mobility ecosystem powered by electric vehicle charging. By offering free, employee‑exclusive access to EV chargers across two campuses, Novo Nordisk not only reduced emissions but also encouraged employees to embrace cleaner commutes. This case study explores how vision was translated into action and how technology, infrastructure, and employee engagement came together to create measurable impact.

Project Objectives

The project was anchored in Novo Nordisk’s sustainability vision. The company aimed to build a robust EV charging network that would serve employees reliably across two campuses. Access was deliberately restricted to employees to ensure equitable usage, while charging sessions were offered free of cost to encourage adoption. Seamless operation and real‑time performance tracking were prioritized, with a focus on monitoring energy consumption, CO₂ savings, and operational metrics to evaluate environmental impact.

Challenges and Planning

Deploying EV infrastructure across large corporate campuses presented several challenges. Parking layouts and power availability had to be carefully assessed to identify optimal charger locations. Integration with existing electrical systems required close collaboration with facility teams. Beyond technical hurdles, Novo Nordisk also needed to ensure that chargers remained accessible only to employees, preventing unauthorized use. Finally, employee adoption was a critical factor; the success of the initiative depended on making the transition to EVs simple, convenient, and rewarding.
