TL;DR

  • Download the Bolt.Earth EV Charging App, set up your account and add your vehicle details so the app can show you compatible chargers.
  • The dashboard is built around the “Account” section, where you’ll find your chargers, bookings, and charging history.
  • Use the interactive map to locate a nearby EV charger, check its availability and connector type, then scan the QR code to start charging.
  • Monitor your charging in real time, pay via card, UPI, or in-app wallet, and end your booking when you’re done.
  • If you own a charger, you can list it as a host and earn passive income whenever another EV owner charges at your location.

EV owners in India increasingly rely on public EV charging infrastructure, and an EV charging app is what makes that manageable. The Bolt.Earth EV Charging App takes you through the entire journey; from account setup to finding a charger, starting your charging session, making payments, and even earning from your own charger if you choose to list one. Here’s how each part of the app actually works.

Getting Started with the Bolt.Earth EV Charging App

This section walks you through installing the app and getting familiar with its layout, so you know exactly where to find everything once you’re in.

Downloading and Setting Up Your Account

The Bolt.Earth EV Charging App is free on the Google Play Store (Android) and the App Store (iOS). Search for “Bolt.Earth” and install the app for your device.

Once installed, open the app and create your account using your mobile number. After creating your account, add your EV’s details, including the vehicle type (2-wheeler, 3-wheeler, or 4-wheeler) and connector type.

Saving your vehicle details upfront ensures the app flags compatible chargers automatically, saving you time. You can update or add vehicles anytime in your profile.

As a welcome offer, new users get their first charge free, a handy way to try the app before relying on it regularly.

Once set up, the home screen displays an interactive map of nearby EV charging stations. Most account-related activity lives under the Account tab in the bottom right corner.

Here you’ll find:

  • My Chargers: Add and manage any charger you own or host (more on this below).
  • Bookings: View active and past charging sessions, with the option to end an ongoing session.
  • Charging History and Wallet: Track past charging, review spends and manage your wallet balance.

Getting familiar with this layout early makes finding chargers, starting sessions, and tracking payments much faster.

Finding and Using Chargers

From finding a compatible EV charger to making payments and monitoring your session, the Bolt.Earth app brings the complete charging journey into one place.

This is the part of the app you’ll use most often; locating an EV charger nearby and actually getting your vehicle charged.

Locating Nearby Chargers

Enable location access to see nearby EV charging stations on the map. You can also scroll or search for a different area if planning ahead.

Tap on any pin to view details such as:

  • Availability: whether a charger is free or in use
  • Connector type: ensures it fits your EV
  • Charging speed: indicates how quickly the charger can deliver power
  • Pricing: the per-unit rate at a particular location

Starting and Monitoring a Charging

Once you’ve found a compatible, available charger:

  1. Park safely next to the charging point.
  1. Connect the charging cable to your vehicle.
  1. Open the app and scan the QR code on the charger.
  1. Confirm details in the app (vehicle type, charging duration).
  1. Charging begins once confirmed.

During charging, the app shows live details, including energy consumed, how long it’s been running, and current status. You can even monitor progress remotely. To end charging, go to Account > Bookings > Active, stop the session, disconnect the cable, and stow the connector safely.

One thing worth keeping in mind: a higher-rated charger doesn’t always mean it supports fast charging. Your vehicle’s onboard charging capability determines speed. As a rough guide, AC chargers suit gradual top-ups (overnight or while shopping at a mall), while DC fast chargers are ideal for quick boosts on the move.

Managing Payments and Rewards

Once your charging session ends, the final steps are making the payment, and if you’re a charger owner, possibly earning from it.

Payment Options

All payments are handled directly within the Bolt.Earth App. It supports credit, debit, and prepaid cards, UPI, and its own in-app wallet.

You can top up the wallet in advance, and once your charging ends, the cost, based on the energy you consume, plus any applicable fees, is deducted automatically.

Because pricing at each charging point is shown upfront, you’ll know exactly what to expect before starting. Every transaction is also saved in your charging history, making it easy to track what you were charged and when.

Host Features for Passive Income

If you own a charger (at home, in an RWA, or at a shop), you can list it on the Bolt.Earth app and earn passive income. To do this, go to Account > My Chargers > Add New Charger, and choose how your charger operates:

  • Public Paid: Visible to other EV users, who pay to charge
  • Public Free: Visible to others, but free to use
  • Private: Visible only to you

If you list your charger as Public Paid, you set your own per-unit price, typically based on what you already pay for your electricity provider plus a margin. Whenever another EV owner charges at your location, you earn revenue.

This works well for spare capacity that would otherwise sit idle, e.g., a charger in visitor parking, a storefront, or a home charger unused during the day. You stay in control of pricing, access mode, and availability.

Ready to Get Charging?

From finding a compatible EV charger to monitoring sessions and paying seamlessly, the Bolt.Earth EV Charging App handles the entire process in one place.

If you haven’t already, download the app, set up your account, and find the nearest charging station today. Or, if you own a charger, list it and start earning from it too.
